OPTIONAL TRUCK INDUSTRY INSURANCE COVERAGE

At Joe Morten & Son, Inc., we take pride in the solid reputation we’ve built by providing protection and outstanding customer service to thousands of clients in the truck industry across the country. We have specialized exclusively in truck insurance since 1936, so we’ve seen and evaluated pretty much every kind of risk that a trucking business can throw our way.

Backed by that deep experience, our team of trucking insurance experts knows the right questions to ask about where and how your business operates and the risks your employees and drivers face every day. We can help you find coverage for nuances of your trucking operations that other agents haven’t ever considered and help you find options to lower our premiums as well as manage your cash flow while keeping your crew and your business protected.  Here are some unique trucking insurance options we’ve created to protect you and your business against the risks you face in the trucking industry.

  • Auto Medical Liability (sometimes called Med Pay)—Provides medical payments for an injured occupant of a covered auto.
  • Broker/Freight Forwarding Contingent—This coverage can apply to Truck Liability Insurance (sometimes called Auto Liability Insurance) or Cargo Insurance Coverage for damage to a load when the hauling carrier’s insurance policy did not pay for the loss.
  • Commercial Auto Extension—Extends Truck Liability Coverage (Auto Liability Insurance) when the insured trip leases to another motor carrier or when our insured trip leases to others.
  • Broker/Freight Forwarding Contingent—This coverage can apply to Truck Liability (sometimes called Auto Liability) or Cargo Insurance Coverage for damage to a load when the hauling carrier’s policy did not pay for the loss.
  • Hired Auto Cargo Coverage—Extends your Cargo Insurance to loads where you must hire a tractor to deliver your load.
  • Garage Liability Coverage—Commercial General Liability Insurance for your garage when you tow, service, repair, park or store the trucks, trailers, equipment and containers of others, including owner-operators.
  • Terrorism Coverage—Provides protection for acts of terrorism.
  • Comprehensive Coverage—Provides Physical Damage Insurance for covered trucks from any cause except collision, subject to exclusions.
  • Electronic Equipment Coverage—Extends the covered truck’s Physical Damage Policy to include electronic items normally not covered, such as computers, fax machines, satellite systems, etc.
  • Hired Auto Physical Damage Coverage—Provides physical damage coverage for trucks and tractors you lease, hire, rent or borrow without a driver for 30 days or less as well as trailers you lease, hire, rent or borrow.
  • Trailer Interchange Endorsement—Covers non-owned equipment in your care, custody and control.  Available if required by contract or Uniform Intermodal Agreement.
  • Contingent Casualty Coverage—Can be written in conjunction with Occ/Acc to provide benefits equivalent to Workers’ Compensation Coverage in the event an independent contractor succeeds in a claim of being an employee rather than an independent contractor.
  • Employee Benefits Liability Coverage—Provides liability coverage for clerical errors related to administering various types of employee benefit programs.
  • Occupational Accident Coverage (Occ/Acc)—For carriers who use independent contractors, this coverage provides accidental death, dismemberment, paralysis, disability and medical expenses to drivers for injuries sustained while under dispatch.
  • Stop-Gap Employers Liability—Provides employers liability coverage in states where Workers’ Compensation must be purchased from a state fund (ND, OH, WA or WY).
  • Choice Coverage® Plus Bundle—A bundle of insurance endorsements ideal for owner-operators with one to nine units. Includes Electronic Equipment Coverage, Personal Property Coverage, Miscellaneous Equipment Coverage (chains, tarps, tie-downs, etc.) and Mechanical Breakdown Coverage (expanded Towing Coverage, Rental Reimbursement Coverage, and Emergency Expenses Coverage in the event of a mechanical breakdown).  Also included is a Diminishing Deductible that rewards customers who operate safe and loss-free.
  • Lease Value & Finance Value Coverage—If you experience a total loss of a tractor, trailer or truck, this coverage fills in the gap when the cost to pay off its lease or loan exceeds the unit’s actual cash value (ACV).
  • Non-Trucking Use Liability Coverage—Provides liability coverage when the owner-operator who is permanently leased is not operating under the lease agreement of the motor carrier.
  • Rental Reimbursement Coverage—Covers the cost of renting replacement tractors, trucks and trailers when a loss under your Physical Damage Policy occurs.

Umbrella Insurance Coverage (sometimes called Umbrella Liability Coverage)—Provides higher limits over and above your General Liability, Truck Liability (Auto Liability), Cargo Insurance, Uninsured Motorist, Medical Payments, Personal Injury Protection and/or Employers Liability primary insurance as well providing additional coverage.

This coverage protects you in situations where your business brokers or forwards a load to another trucking company that is insured. It can be applied to Truck Liability or Cargo Insurance for damage to a load when the hauling carrier’s insurance policy can’t or won’t pay all or part of the loss.

If you run a shop, tow vehicles, store equipment or containers owned by someone else, or let other truckers park in your lot, you could be responsible if something happens to their property. Garagekeepers Coverage provides physical damage insurance for trucks, tractors, or trailers that you do not own — but that are in your possession for towing, servicing, repair, parking, or storage as part of your garage business. It even covers the property of owner-operators.

And to help you maintain your relationships, we make Garagekeepers Coverage primary, meaning it will kick in before the vehicle owner’s policy, and it will compensate the owner even if you’re not responsible for the losses (if, for instance, they’re caused by hail or a tornado).

The Garagekeepers endorsement includes Property-of-Others Endorsement to insure your business when you’re working on someone else’s loaded trailer. It protects you against damages to their cargo, including theft. (Many people don’t realize that since it’s not your cargo, your policy doesn’t provide coverage.)

The Garagekeepers Coverage is subject to a per-loss limit of insurance, so you’ll want to get covered for your maximum potential loss at any one location.
